Juan Atkins’ Metroplex imprint delivers the ‘Lost In Sensation’EP by Bas Grossfeldt this July, comprising three originals from the German artist.Germany’s Bas Grossfeldt is a relatively new name in the Techno scene, although working as a creative in installation, choreography and performance art under his own name for sometime. 2020 saw him pair with Simian Mobile Disco’s Jas Shaw for a collaborative album entitled ‘Klavier’ and here we see him delivering solo material for the revered Juan Atkins helmed Techno imprint Metroplex. The exchange between the label head and the artist, initially came to life because internationally renowned conceptual artist Mischa Kuball, knowing Juan from a joint project, sent him the demo of Bas Grossfeldt. Especially intrigued by the track ‘Lost In Translation’, Juan and Bas started exchanging, approaching the record as an art project and a classical EP at the same time. The cover was made by Bas Grossfeldt/Søren Siebel himself and includes numerous hidden references to the sound. ‘Lost In Translation’ opens the release with a cinematic feel permeating amongst frozen emotion and melancholic soul. It’s also accompanied with a hypnotizing abstract video by film-artist Svenja Voß. Continuing the dubby haze is ‘Lost In Sensation’ which floats alongside a sharp, metallic rhythm arrangement and a gentle, ever-present kick drum. Deep, heavily saturated atmospheric textures sleep underneath the sounds while lucid melodies float in and out. ‘Your Orbit’rounds out the release with the most club-ready production. Disorienting melodies and gritty synths capture a dreamlike perception while a robust kick drum and clattering percussion drives the groove.
