Pangia was a New York City boogie funk band formed in 1984 by Tony Cimorosi, Jim Daniel and Barry Gun.

Around 1983, Tony Cimorosi, a boston Berklee trained bassist, met with Jim Daniel, a freelancing drummer at a recording session.
Jim then invited Tony to join the superb boogie outfit PIKE - an offshoot of BT Express.

After a couple of legendary releases and a few tours, Jim and Tony left Pike with singer Barry Gun and formed Pangia.

Pangia was composed of Barry Gun (vocals), Jim Daniel (Drums), Tony Cimorosi (Bass), Cliff Korman (Keys), Roberto Santos (percussion) and Marlon Graves (Guitar).

Influenced by Funk, Jazz and R&B and with some world music mixed into the musical gumbo, Tony started writing songs for the band with Barry Gun writing most of the lyrics.

Rosemary Santos met Tony at a recording session he was working on with latin singer Juan Lan Franko and liked Tony’s arrangements. She approached Tony with the idea of creating a record company to feature him as an artist and producer. Rosemary then created Man-Rose Records with Manny Montero and financed Pangia’s first release.

“Tell Me” and “Dancin And Singin” were recorded by Bob Blank at Blank recording studio NYC in 1984. It was the only release on Man-Rose Records. (12” versions were also produced but the tapes are unfortunately missing).

Due to a lack of promotion and marketing, the single sold only a few copies. The band managed to get a few gigs after the release but quickly split due to internal issues. Man-Rose Records folded right after.

Tony Cimorosi went on to release half a dozen Contemporary Jazz CDs and is now an acclaimed bass teacher, writer (World beat grooves for bass), pub Hal leonard and musician in the NYC, Philadelphia and DC areas. He continues to record, teach and play and recently released his last full length “Change at West 4th Street” with Koko Bermejo. More info at www.tonycimorosi.com
