Audiofly X, known to their friends as Anthony Middleton and Luca Saporito, are back with a massive new release for Get Physical, the follow up to 2006's sparkling 4Play EP.

Since their Physical debut, Anthony and Luca have brought us thoughtful, thrilling productions on labels like Moodmusic, SAW, Leftroom, Rekids and Kickboxer. 'Blink' finds the Anglo-Italian duo's minimal house sound at perfect pitch. Dancefloor-minded but infused with all the melody and texture of classic electronica.

The title-track opens with a low-slung kickdrum and snare pattern which rolls on through the track, picking up layer after layer in a snowball effect that will cause an avalanche at after-hours. Audiofly X avoid the easy tricks and signals of house music, putting faith instead in their sophisticated sound design and letting the intensity grow out of subtle interactions and developments. Twinkling keys and mid-range effects chatter and swell before moody Detroit string pads reveal themselves as 'Blink's true centre of gravity. Bleeps and percussion stabs are scattered across the track. This is an incredibly stylish work which performs its dancefloor function admirably while also giving the listener enough space for his or her imagination to run wild.

On the flip, Luca and Anthony take us Below The Surface. Employing a similarly glacial palette to that of Blip, the addition of a murmuring sub-bass hook makes this a potentially powerful weapon for DJs. Snares snap and hi-hats hiss, before a dreamy, treated synth arpeggio rises triumphantly from the shadows. The drop-down back into that heads-down, bassy groove is a subtle shift that will take on huge proportions in the club.

On Blink/Below The Surface, Audiofly X use all their experience and musicianship to show us how modern house minimalism should be done, which will work as well at home as on the dancefloor.
