Nikko.Z's Dopamine White begins the new year by welcoming Ivan Aliaga to the label for his debut EP. The Argentinean artist first appeared on the progressive music scene in May of 2019 with a contribution to 3rd Avenue's ‘Three Of A Kind' split EP. Subsequent appearances on Droid9, PHW Elements and Soundteller Records further solidified Ivan and one of his country's top new artists. Now getting 2020 of to a great start the Cordoba resident debuts on Dopamine White with ‘Safiruz'.
Beginning with Aela' Ivan explores his pure progressive roots with a warm, groovy creation that's sure to get your dance floor moving. Waves of undulating bass power the foundation while clattering percussion and wispy atmospheres surround the framework. Smooth and effortless the track strips down into a near two minute break, bringing moments of serenity before a classy build sparks a free flowing finale. The title track follows with powerful beats and a rippling underbelly. Rugged and rhythmic in all the right ways, icy atmospheres descend over the bulbous foundation, as cross-cultural wails steal the air. Timely effects and a spacey arp add to its astral narrative, before a well-crafted break seals it's spiritual appeal.
The EP's halfway point is marked with electric moods of ‘Exilis'. Perhaps the most peak time offering on the release, its full-bodied groove is full of energy and drive, while piercing stabs and tantalizing arps work in perfect sonic unison. Subtle modulation makes for a tension filled break, before melting down to a gated vocal which sparks a powerful drop. Rounding out the release is ‘Shiva' which finds Ivan exploring more cross-cultural themes. Backed by a buoyant and well contoured groove it's bounce and drive quickly become infectious. Billowing stabs and soulful wails offset each other nicely before the main break furthers the narrative with cinematic overlays and bassy rumblings, perfectly setting the stage for a driving finale. It rounds out a superb Dopamine White debut for Ivan who has certainly gotten 2020 off to a great start.
