“Check” is the creative result of a self-re-sampling technique: “There were some really cool instrumental performances, but they weren’t really working in the place that I had them. So I took them all together and treated them as if I had gone digging and treated them as samples”, J-Felix explains.

Brighton-born and breed, El Train aka Luke Nyeke is known for his rare ability to blend hip-hop, R&B and electronic beats through the lens of the US west coast beat scene. Praised by the likes of The Fader, MistaJam (BBC 1Xtra), Complex, Wonderland, Jamz Supernova (BBC 1Xtra), Notion and many more, El Train has released on Kitsune, Darker Than Wax and Jakarta Records. Touches of his distinctive production can be heard throughout the tune, meshing perfectly with J-Felix’s future blend of boogie, p-funk, disco and soul.

“The tune came together really naturally, El Train came to my studio in Brighton, had some lunch, jammed for a few hours, swapping instruments”, J-Felix explains. “Check feat. El Train” follows lead-single and tough-love anthem “Mind Up” featuring signature soul legend Andrew Ashong. Alongside being Swindle and Alice Russell’s guitarist, J-Felix has gained praise from tastemakers such as Julie Adenuga (Beats1), Huey Morgan, Don Letts, Mary Anne Hobbs and Lauren Laverne (BBC 6Music), and leading press support from the likes of Clash, Mixmag, NME, FIP and Jazzanova.
