Particle Zoo continues its international quest for the finest in Disco, House and Electronic. Next stop; Germany, where we find rising star Ronald Koon in fine form indeed.
Having released an incredible EP on Hot Digits last year, an exclusive EP on Particle Zoo is a no-brainer.
Ronald serves up another salvo of his unique and idiosyncratic take on Disco, all reverb-drenched samples, shuffling, hypnotic grooves and sultry, infectious vibrations.
Hygh Way kicks us off in style. It's a captivating record, full of character and brimming with soul. If Fatboy Slim made Disco, it would sound like this.
Velvet Nyghts crosses the border into French House territory. But, as is Ronald's wont, there's no faithful genre recreation. Instead, we see one-finger piano riffs and chugging synth lines marry with electro toms and more shuffly, hypnotic goodness. Euphoric and under-stated at the same time, somehow.
Last from Ronald is Lyquid Love, upping the tempo and heading to a sophisticated nightclub circa 2004 for a stunning example of classic House music, all shimmering synths, funky guitars, horn stabs and a piano line for the ages. Hands in the air!
Closing out affairs, label boss Don Dayglow takes Velvet Nyghts into distinctly Giorgio Moroder territory. Arpeggiated bass, electro drums and hypnotic organs which give way to a smouldering piano riff and transcendent chanting for a full immersive dancefloor moment.
