La Candela Del Río

Insólito UniVerso

Olindo Records
ORLP002 | 2018-11-16
In the space of 8 tracks, the band fuses traditional Venezuelan styles, such as joropo, merengue caraqueño, or tambores de San Millán with psych, chanson, and contemporary electronics. Co-produced by The Heliocentrics' Malcolm Catto, the record shows two distinct sides; on the one hand there's euphoric music that begs to be danced to, while on the other there's melancholy, mystery and devotion.

2nd single "El vuelo del Gabán" is a powerful instrumental joropo llanero originally composed by the legendary harp player José Gregorio López. This song was never recorded and was transcribed by Edgar Bonilla and his cousin Juan Sebastian Jimenez after hearing it several times at family gatherings in the Venezuelan plains.
