Riccardo Montanari, aka Ricky Montanari, is one of Italy's most acclaimed deejays and is recognized around the world by any House music lover. He was born in Rimini (a lovely sea side
Town on the Adriatic Riviera, renown for it’s very active night life), Ricky became passionate about music from a very young age thanks to a "huge" amount of 45s that his English uncles brought him every summer back from England as gifts.
He begun DJing in the 80’s but it’s with the House music explosion in 1988 that he started to make a name for himself and got noticed by a Club entrepreneur named Gianluca Tantini which launched him to become a DJ known worldwide and a symbol for the Romagna Riviera.
It was then that Ricky had the opportunity to impose its own sound, eclectic but at the same time capable of forging his mark and making it the "sound" of the moment!
Ethos Mama Club, Diabolik’a, Matis, Vae Victis, Echoes to name just some of the most iconic ones, are the Clubs that see him as Resident DJ at that time, alongside another DJ, a historic name, as well as, Ricky’s close friend, Flavio Vecchi.
It is in those early years when House Music dominated the Charts and the Clubs’ sound that Ricky produced its first and most important record releases in collaboration with some other Italian producers signed to the Bologna based Label ‘Irma Records’ people like: Omniverse, Riviera Traxx, Dreams Unlimited, Key Tronics Ensemble, to name a few, these Productions will push Ricky’s name to be appreciated also as a producer around the world.
Over the years he has also worked with various music projects by Azuli, Heartbeatbeat, SFP, Revox, Uomo, Nrk, Paola & Chiara, Irene Grandi ... and is still very active working closely with local young talents hailing from his Riviera.
Some other historic Clubs were Ricky has DJ’d are : Ministry of Sound, Kw, Amnesia, Pacha, Stereo, Zouk, Dance Valley and CircoLoco DC10, his most recent residencies have been at : Echoes, Titilla / Cocoricò, Buongiorno Classic of Rimini.
His historical connection with IRMA Records sees him involved in the 30 Yrs Label celebration

Ricky’ selection contains some of best productions and other gems, some almost forgotten, which reflect his style and his particular sound that have characterized him since his beginnings.

Riccardo Montanari, in arte Ricky Montanari, e’ uno dei deejay piu’ acclamati d’ Italia ed è riconosciuto negli ambienti della musica house di tutto il mondo. Nato a Rimini il 17 febbraio 1965 si appassiona sin da giovanissimo al mondo della musica grazie ad una “ingente” quantità di 45 giri che gli zii inglesi ogni estate gli portavano in regalo.
L’attività vera e propria da deejay inizia più tardi nel 1980 ma bisogna aspettare il 1988, anno di esplosione dell’House Music, perché un imprenditore lungimirante di nome Gianluca Tantini si accorga di lui e presto fatto Ricky diventa subito deejay simbolo della riviera Romagnola. Per la prima volta ha l’opportunità di imporre il proprio suono, eclettico al tempo stesso capace di fare la "tendenza" musicale del momento! Ethos Mama Club, Diabolik’a (il primo afterhour italiano), Matis, Vae Victis, Echoes sono i club che lo vedono resident a quell’epoca, al fianco di un altro deejay totem, nonchè amico fraterno, Flavio Vecchi.
E' proprio in quei primi anni di dominio musicale dell'House Music che Ricky sforna anche le prime e importantissime uscite discografiche in collaborazione con alcuni produttori italiani dell’etichetta Irma Records di Bologna, con pseudonimi come: Omniverse, Riviera Traxx, Dreams Unlimited, Key Tronics Ensemble, per nominarne alcuni, che portano il nome di Ricky ad essere apprezzato all'estero anche come produttore.
Nel tempo si è inoltre occupato di altri progetti musicali legati ad Azuli, Heartbeatbeat, SFP, Revox, Uomo, Nrk, Paola & Chiara, Irene Grandi….. ed è tutt’ora molto attivo al fianco di giovani talenti della Riviera.
Ricky Montanari è stato protagonista in club storici quali Ministry of Sound, Kw, Amnesia, Pacha, Stereo, Zouk, Dance Valley e CircoLoco DC10, per citarne solo alcuni.
Residency recenti: Echoes , Titilla/Cocoricò, Buongiorno Classic di Rimini.
Il suo legame storico con la IRMA Records lo ha coinvolto nella celebrazione dei 30 anni della label e nella compilazione di questa sua selezione di brani scelti dal catalogo del periodo anni ’90 dell’etichetta che racchiude alcune delle sue produzioni storiche e altre gemme, alcune anche dimenticate, che rispecchiano il suo stile e le sue particolari sonorità che dai suoi esordi lo hanno caratterizzato.
