Manikarnika Ghat is instantly recognizable by its smoking fires, soot-covered buildings, and stacks of wood piled on boats and landings. As the center of the there-mile long sweep of the ghat stretch, it has the sacred kund believed to have been dug by Lord Vishnu and the cremation ground, symbolic of the universe burning at the end of time.
