Tiefschwarz & Yotam Avni

Souvenir

Tiefschwarz return to their own Souvenir imprint with a collaborative effort alongside Yotam Avni, the rising musical force from Tel Aviv who’s recently appeared on Hotflush, Innervisions, Kompakt and Stroboscopic Artefacts. By sharing ideas, exchanging samples and building off each artist’s personal musical idealism, the results of this project are nothing short of stunning. ‘Hybrid Sounds’ features 6 brand new club focused tracks stuffed to the brim with brilliant melodies, innovative production aesthetics and industrial dancefloor strength.

The first collaboration, ‘Hybrid Sounds’ is an emotionally charged piece of late night magic centered around a stunning vocal inspired by Yotam Avni’s native tongue. Subtle and effective melodies rise and fall around the female vocals, whilst energetic and steady drum programming moves the cut forward. The addition of perfectly placed rolling synths near the end give this piece of music a perfectly adventurous spirit with surprises around each turn.

‘Delusion’ heads into deeper territories with Tiefschwarz and Yotam Avni flexing their keen ability to build tension with repetition and patience. A murky synth line grows from a muffle to a sharp frequency during the journey, while the percussion changes slightly with incredible use of delay and restraint. It’s a tripped out late night affair which is clearly designed to lock the dancefloor tightly in its musical hypnosis.

Tiefschwarz goes solo for ‘Rolling Home,’ with a heavy slab of loopy darkness. The type of track that would work perfectly during a foggy sunrise, ‘Rolling Home’ does not shy away from heavy reverb and nebulous tones. Midway through the track, an arpeggiator cuts through the thick atmosphere and pushes the track into moodier enclaves.

Taking a turn at a solo track as well, Yotam Avni’s ‘The Wind Of War’ is a dreamy and punchy cut reminiscent of his recent projects for Dixon’s Innervisions label. Heavy on cinematic musicality, ‘The Wind Of War’ is just as much a sonic adventure as it is a club destroye
