The Nite Owl Diner’s newest release is a collection of rare Midwest rave & house from the 1990s. Minneapolis producer Alexander East has released on many of yesteryear’s most heavy-hitting labels: Afterhours, NRK, Sub-Urban, Fabric, Aroma, OM Records, Underground Construction, and more.
“Hazy Shade of Love” is a slept-on classic (and mainstay of Derrick Carter’s late-‘90s sets) with a soulful vocal and keys over heavy stomping drums. True to its title, “Str8 Jackin’” is a heavy-hitting jack track with a big breakdown. Rounding out the pack, “The Bombmaker” is a filtered banger with a techno edge, reminiscent of Blake Baxter or early Tresor releases.
