Li-Polymer returns to John Johnson's ICONYC this week with the much anticipated 'How They Shine'. In addition to finding a home on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music, the US imprint has also become a comfortable spot for the Portuguese artist, now making his third appearance on the label. Already garnering considerable hype amongst DJs pre-release, 'How They Shine' now arrives alongside a remix from Navar.

Beginning with the original mix Li-Polymer explores free flowing aesthetics and spacious textures. Backed by a framework of corky beats, organic drums and finely tuned percussion comes a buoyant tonal theme and spatial effects. Indistinct vocals drift, shifting energy and mood as smooth chord changes and glowing pads initiate the main break. Mildly cross-cultural, the centrepiece is introspective yet poignant and the eventual reveal of a primary musical theme is quite magical, elevating the mood for a short moment before effortlessly segueing into a smooth finale. Likely one of Li-Polymer's most accomplished creations to date.

The release concludes with Navar making his label debut and providing the lone interpretation of 'How They Shine'. As one of the progressive scenes most unique talents the Dutch artist has become a favourite of Guy J, having graced his Lost & Found imprint several times as well underground heavyweights microCastle, Replug and Sudbeat. Always a creative remixer, Navar's freeform style is unpredictable and rare, something to cherish and his take on 'How They Shine' is just that. Delightfully organic, it's wispy motifs and astral designs are mysterious yet emotive, under constant evolution and backed by a warm yet punchy groove, underpinning the track and delivering it's cosmic message in style. It rounds out what is another must have release from John Johnson's ICONYC imprint. Don't miss it.
