ICONYC

Dynacom makes his debut on John Johnson’s ICONYC this week with ‘Black Lion’. Hailing from Buenos Aires the Argentinean artist and Auditen label boss has become one of his country’s top progressive house prospects. Released late last year, his ‘Komoder’ EP showed a depth, character and energy which is rare in the progressive underground. It brought back memories of the genres first peak during the early 2000s and translated incredibly well in today’s modern landscape. Continuing to build on his success Dynacom now makes the jump to ICONYC for a new single alongside remixes from Andrea Cassino and Dhany G.

Although Dynacom’s discography is short he’s already developed a reputation for his incredible sense of dance floor dynamics. On ‘Black Lion’ that uncanny knack is prevalent once again with a thumping groove, percussive flashes and a trippy, hypnotic resonance. Tantalizing arps capture your imagination as the first act unfolds before a smooth transition into the break reveals a quirky lead theme, complete with effervescent peak time qualities.

First up on the remixes is progressive house savant Andrea Cassino. Making his label debut, the Italian artist’s smooth, free flowing style melds well with elements from ‘Black Lion’. Known for his journey-esque creations his interpretation once again meets that storytelling reverence he’s so beloved for. Pulsating and energetic yet deep and fluid, it’s a mix with charming rhythms and percussive drive. Wispy vocal motifs and gaseous waves meet as the piece strips down into a guitar like soundscape, making for a soulful centrepiece, before shifting energy into an exhilarating finale.

The release concludes with the third and final ICONYC debutant in Dhany G. The Cuban artist is fresh off releases on Balkan Connection South America and Clinique Recordings. Now presenting the first remix of his career, Dhany takes a groovy, mid set approach on ‘Black Lion’. Smooth and rhythmic across its first act the piece builds with dubbed out tones, fragmented noise and billowing bass swells. A lead line adds fuel to its hypnotic fire, gradually building in intensity with calculated modulation, before a wave of beats and fiery electronics initiates a stellar third act. A great remix from Dhany which rounds out a fresh release from ICONYC, who once again introduce fresh talent to the world alongside a scene veteran in Andrea. Highly Recommended.
