Nice & Nasty
NANO 167 | 2018-09-14
Pat Hyland is one of Ireland's important DJs and Promoters and has been involved in the Irish scene since its inception and words like legend, pioneer fit neatly into the lexicon that describes this giant of Irish techno scene.

Alongside Mick Walsh and Warren Kiernan aka Warren K, he designed, helped build and named The Asylum dance club on Sackville Place that ran after-hours until 8am every weekend from late 1991 until 1994. Under the guise of NR-Gex, the trio were also one of the first Irish outfits to record and produce their own electronic music,.

Along with Sides and Olympic, The Asylum played a crucial role in the early Dublin rave scene, and it still commands a huge and loyal following to regular events that celebrate its musical legacy. Pat was also a long standing resident at the infamous Sides and continues to play today supporting local and international talent but always staying true to the DIY ethos and underground culture of acid house and techno

Pat selects a mixture of Irish talent, Derek Carr and Colin McKeown aka The Parallel, alongside global stars Rennie Foster, Terrence Dixon and Erell Ranson but the one common thread is mature, deep and hypnotic techno that is aimed at the dancefloor.

Pat Hyland presents 5 for 25 is the second in a series of releases celebrating the depth and wealth of musical gems in the Nice & Nasty back catalogue to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Irish imprint.
