Progressive House veteran Matteo Monero makes a return to John Johnson’s ICONYC with ‘Strange Habits’. The Italian artist has been highly regarded amongst the genre’s most diehard fans and owns an eleven year discography with 150 release credits. Now following an EP on IONO's newly launched Black imprint, Matteo finds his way back to ICONYC with a new single alongside remixes from Filip Fisher and Asten.

Having first appeared on the label in June of 2017 with a remix of ‘Find the Future’ by Irene Radice, Matteo now presents his most anticipated single to date in ‘Strange Habits’. The Italian’s penchant for driving, hypnotic grooves beams brightly here with a smooth, well contoured low end and dazzling electronics. Clean and serene, the narrative evolves beautifully as the main break begins to take shape, with billowing bass adding just the right amount of tension before escalating into a tepid drop.

The first interpretation of ‘Strange Habits’ is provided by Filip Fisher who is making his second appearance on the label. Currently based in Belgrade, the Serbian artist and Purr Music label boss first appeared on ICONYC in May of 2017 with a remix of ‘Mindshapes’ by Phraktal. Also an accomplished DJ, Filip is well travelled with appearances at some of the world’s most infamous venues including Club NL (Holland) and D-Edge (Brazil). Now making a welcome return to ICONYC Filip takes ‘Strange Habits’ into his world of deep beats and sultry grooves. Remarkably intricate, the framework takes shape with an array of fascinating electronics and vibrant percussion, before stripping down into an emotive break. Cinematic, guitar-like scapes dominate the interlude, building emotion ever so subtly, as the storyboard breaks and the beats drop for a magic moment.

The second and final interpretation of ‘Strange Habits’ is provided by Asten who is making his label debut. The Russian artist has found a place in the deep house underground with releases on some of the genre’s freshest imprints such as Magician on Duty and Salomo. Now stepping up for the most anticipated remix of his career Asten provides a stellar interpretation of ‘Strange Habits’ to close the release out in style. Anchored by a buoyant groove and tight rhythmic core, the dance floor sensibility is immediate from the outset. A fresh take on the lead theme makes for a quirky yet impassioned narrative, eventually peaking during the final act with tonal tension and percussive splashes. An invigorating remix from Asten, which caps off yet another impressive single from Matteo Monero, who continues to be one of the more intriguing artists in the progressive underground.
