Lifelong friends and an iconic production duo, Peter Szigeti and Gergely Sardi have been making waves in the underground dance fraternity for well over a decade under their Peter Makto and Gregory S production soubriquets. Now returning to Proton Music, the pair debut with their first original EP for the label in the shape of "Purple Rain".

Triumphing in the Hungarian DJ of the year award on four occasions between 2006-13, Peter Makto's longevity in a cutthroat industry is second to none. A regular across the clubs and festivals of his homeland, appearances at the likes of Sisyphos (Berlin) and Fabric (London), demonstrate prowess behind the decks in front of the most demanding of club audiences. With a similarly impressive list of achievements to his name, Gregory S, has also found himself a regular across Hungarian clubs and the events he organises as a prominent member of the popular TrueSounds DJ roster. Performances alongside industry giants, Henry Saiz, Dave Seaman and Guy J, solidified a 24-carat reputation as a trusted dancefloor tastemaker.

Working closely together within the studio environment, over a double-century of production credits have found Peter Makto and Gregory S at the upper echelons of the underground house scene with a distinctive deep and tech house sound. Making their debut in 2011 for Manual Music, remixing Dutch giant Eelke Kleijn, the duo has consistently found their work allied to the industry's finest imprints as Bondage Music, Hope and Heinz Music have all helped shape the Peter Makto and Gregory S sound. Curating their own label, Truesounds Music has been a regular vehicle for their own music while also extolling the virtues of a host of new and exciting talents, alongside an array of established artists.

Making their Proton Music debut in April 2018, the Peter Makto and Gregory S remix of Michael A's "My Style" showcased a striking blend of rhythm and melody and it is with great pleasure that we welcome the duo back to the label with "Purple Rain". A strong musical narrative runs through both tracks as opener, "Grey Rain", builds with wonderful shaker-fuelled groove that sits perfectly across chest-thumping kick and hypnotic bassline sequence. Evolving with ease from a held single note, a pitch-bent lead slides into the third movement accompanied by off-beat snare in a track that is sure to find favour in the seething dancefloors across Europe.

The title track itself immediately makes its presence felt with a similar rhythmic framework to its partner. Building with consummate ease, a sublime melodic sequence supplies a dramatic edge that sits tightly against a rhythmic groove that falls away at the mid-point breakdown to reveal a glorious piano-led refrain. Hitting its stride in the third movement, the perfect blend of rhythm and melody hit the heights in a track that is a joy to behold.

An EP that cascades down in regal brilliance, "Purple Rain" showcases Peter Makto and Gregory S in glorious sonic technicolour.
