Originally appearing on Forescape Digital's "Interfered Volume I" compilation in March 2018, Gordey Tsukanov produced a moment of trance magic with his "Last Step Before Heaven." With supersaw waveforms and rippling delays in full evidence, Yin and Yang now revisit Tsukanov's work with a pair of new remixes from Canadian and Russian talents.
Changing his production soubriquet from Onez!e to Dowden hasn't affected the Toronto based producer's ability to create compelling dance music. Evolving his sound to "fuse the grit and eeriness of techno and beautiful melody of progressive house" into a new sonic identity, Dowden's work for a host of high-profile imprints – not least for the John 00 Fleming led JOOF – has seen the Canadian's "Sinister EP" a notable highlight for the label in April 2018. Further work for Superordinate Music, Stellar Fountain and Modern Agenda has continued an impressive year, as Dowden now returns to Yin after a remix of Andrea Cassino'a "Charlotte" in October 2017 and an Ivanshee remix of his own "Grindavik" in early 2018.
Taking the core melodic theme of Tsukanov's work but reimagining it in a grittier, hypnotic framework, Dowden's remix builds upon a huge rasping driving bassline that builds in intensity with driving beat and striking off-beat open hats. Evolving with a central, modulating motif that mesmerizes with stereo-panned delay. Rhythm and melody combine in the third movement to create a truly special moment.
