P3rf3ct Strang3rs - the duo of Mexican DJ/Producer Paulina Rodriguez aka Paurro and New York vocalist/club booker Steven Klavier -
are less strangers and more a match made in happenstance heaven. The two first met back in 2019 when Klavier, who has been booking some of NYC's best clubs for many years, booked Paurro for her first event in the city. It was a fast friendship, and after years of swapping tracks, club stories and an adoration for emotive dance music it was only a matter of time before they combined their creative powers.
The magic finally struck when the two were roommates, for a short but glorious time, in a house on the beach in Puerto Escondido, Mexico. During their time living together, the two played host to many a late-night party with a friend's borrowed sound system and Paurro helming the decks, spinning a vast selection of euphoria-driven house, UK garage, breakbeat, bass, and techno records. On one fateful night, Klavier, who has a history of providing sultry, enigmatic vocals to releases on labels like Classic Music, Night People, and Anjunadeep, plugged in a mic and started belting out whatever came to mind. Not two chords in, the two knew they had to create something together and soon after brought their musical partnership to life in a series of casual beach shows.
Over the past couple of years, the P3rf3ct Strang3rs continued to trade ideas online and in real life when Pau was in NYC, and machinations for a release soon took form. Finally, they are excited to announce their debut release, a 2-track EP titled 'Run Away!' due out on August 23 on Toucan Sounds. Inspired by 90s house classics and club divas and driven by a passion for melodic rhythms, organic beats, and silky-smooth flows, these two tracks pack serious heat. The title track and A-side is a slow-burning, deeply layered exercise in tension and release. Klavier's ethereal vocals push and pull through Paurro's jabbing synth lines, skittering high hats and bouncing percussion, snatching listeners into the Strang3rs' waters with siren-esque precision. B-Side track "Against!" is a swath of sweaty, tropicalia-infused house and whispers of funky grooves. Breathy, sensuous vocals echo throughout, again beckoning listeners to succumb and release themselves to P3rf3ct Strang3rs.
