Hailing from Ivory Park in Johannesburg, Suffocate SA is seen by many as one of the best-kept secrets of the South African Electronic scene. After developing his production skills for the last 10 years and working patiently on his craft, he is now ready to share the full dimension of his musical world through several projects and international labels.
In 2022, he made noticeable appearances on the special compilation projects of New York legend Timmy Regisford and Thandi Draai on the renowned labels Nervous (US) & Get Physical (Germany)
In 2023, he has been contributing to the latest albums of fellow South African Afrofunk hot shot Tete (on Sony Music), ex-Black Motion star Mörda (on Asante Music) and Global ambassador Zakes Bantwini (on Universal), all-seeing in him the freshness of the future.
Additionally, the track Mama Thula of Zakes Bantwini which became the "unofficial" anthem of the recent World Cup victory of the South African team Rugby team, has been produced by Suffocate SA & Thakzin, who both developed an amazing production powerhouse together. The track has been receiving instant love by the South African & Global audiences , strong of a universal tribute to brave motherhood.
He ended the year with 2 solid singles: Journey To The Making on Rocco Rodamaal's Memories (FR), Rising Strong (co-produced with Thakzin) on Louie Dunmore & Cleido's Sondela (UK). His track Africa Get Physical featuring NY legend Roland Clark (known for the timeless I Get Deep of Urban Soul) was also part of Thandi Draai's new project on Get Physical (GER)
Since then, he has been locked up in the studio, working on tons of new music. In 2024 he has been releasing Mementos Of Spirit (on Kid Fonque's Stay True Sounds) and Flight of Hope (on Sondela) in February 2025 which got him a round of applause of a wide range of A-Listers such as Bonobo, Jimpster, Manoo, Dwson, Jamiie, Ghedi, Turbojazz, Atmos Blaq, Djeff, Cleido, L'Aroye, Black Coffee, Hyenah and more... In 2025, Suffocate SA has been part of a defining chapter for South African electronic music, contributing to Gods Window Pt. I, the debut album by Thakzin. His touch can be heard on two key tracks — Hamba Nami (with Sykes) and the collective anthem Imali Yephepha, alongside Atmos Blaq, Citizen Deep, Mpho.WAV, Baby S.O.N, and Tete. Beyond production, he also assisted Thakzin throughout the album's recording process, cementing his place among the leading voices of a new wave seamlessly blending Afro House, Afro Tech, and 3Step. Known for his versatility and spark across genres, Suffocate SA continues to expand his sound with I Found It, an upcoming EP in collaboration with Ghedi, Hiribae, and June On The Moon , set for release at the end of November on Beneath the Baobab, the rising Kenyan label celebrated for its high-caliber events and forward-thinking curation.
