BAANTU

Baantu is dubbed as one of the most talented and diverse music composers/Djs to ever come out of the KZN region in South Africa. With sounds that were influenced by world renown music Producers such as Atjazz, Jazzuelle, MDCL, Chronical Deep and Da Capo just to name a few, it is no wonder his sounds elevate one's mind to much greater heights beyond human comprehension. Baantu's sounds range from Down Tempo Deep House to Deep tech with a hint of soulful elements to connect with the deepest part of mankind, which is of course the soul.

However his sound cannot be boxed and limited into just a few sub genres, more especially in the
musical era where music is growing in leaps and bounds and sounds are becoming more and more hybrid in nature. His dream to reach great world stages is evident in his use of sounds as it can already be compared to the heavy weights of the world.

Early Life
Siphiwe Mpanza aka Baantu who was formerly known as MajikTouch on dance floors across his
Province/State was born and raised in Mandeni where he got introduced to house music at a really tender age. He says his love for house music really developed around the time when Dj fresh (aka Big Dawg) and Glen Lewis released a compilation called “Gate crasher meets Africa”.

This compilation was infested with pure Deep House bangers and was really well received in South Africa. Another one of his all time favourites was Dj Oskido's Church Grooves Compilations. Those were the types of sounds he was really fond of and used to play them after school on his leisure time as a child. Even though CD Players were a big deal back then, Baantu says “at home we couldn't afford
them so my brother used to buy cassette tapes and he is also a Dj”.

Even though at those times they were not Deejays, they used to enjoy house music as a music form. Fastforward to 2012, Baantu started familiarising himself with the art of Deejaying and was mentored by a guy called Dj 501 who was involved in a duo called Organic which was featured on legendary labels such as DNH Records and House Africa/Sony. When he started making a name for himself in his
home town and other surrounding areas he finally decided to tap into the music production sphere and that is where everything turned around for him.

He realised that all these years were preparing him for a greater calling, the calling which is music creation. The calling which is spoken about by many but understood and mastered by only a few. A friend of his called MoBlackSA is one of his influences when it comes to music production and used to give him songs to play when he was only a Deejay. He also says that he was inspired by Sacred Soul who is one of the few music creators in his hometown who used to produce the type of sounds he liked.

New Endeavors
After venturing into music production and testing his sounds around, Baantu is finally ready to give the world a taste of what he has been preparing. The Hard Rain EP is his first ever release and is already a very highly anticipated EP with support from artists like Nick Holder, Room 806, Afritonez, DeepConsoul Sounds, K- White, Sacred Soul, Dj Vaccine, Dj 501 just to name a few. The Ep is a 4 track Ep with nothing but pure Deep House/Tech that the masses will enjoy.
