Having had the opportunity to experience his DJ sets, I can tell you that the passion he displays in the booth lies within the limitless possibilities found in his programming of music that brings people together and moves us to higher levels of expression and blissful nights on the dancefloor.!
His DJ career would begin in San Francisco
Where since 1999 Michael has been a fixture in the house music scenes of San Francisco and Oakland, CA.
Highlighted by playing for Movement Music Festival in Detroit & Uniting Souls for Diggin Deep@The Monkey Loft in Seattle. He has played at countless venues in the Bay Area, such as Halcyon - Mighty (Now The Great Northern) - The End Up - Monarch & 1015 FOLSOM, along with numerous underground & after-hours events throughout San Francisco & Oakland,Ca.
This included a 13 year Tuesday weekly in San Francisco at Wish Bar and Lounge that began in 2001 where his event promoting began to take flight.
In The summer of 2012 he founded Sunshine People with a group of friends, a monthly summertime park party in Oakland, CA from May through October.. Now in its 8th season and picking up steam. He is also the co-creator of Substance, a weekly Friday event at the world renown End Up. Run by long time friend & Bay Area native - C.J. Larsen,
he and his bay area cohorts have begun to bring djs, promoters and house music crews in the bay area together for a special night of house music with no signs of slowing down.!!
His house music influences have and continue to be some of the same DJ’s he has had the honor of rocking decks & dance floors with.
Tony Humphries and Doc Martin, David Harness, Mark Bell (Blakkat) Joeski and Claude Von Stroke amongst others.
Other influences include Marshall Jeffersom, Adonis, Liz Torres & Ralph Rosario, MAW, MURK, Marques Wyatt, Doc Martin, Dennis Ferrer, Jimpster, Cajmere/Green Velvet, David Harness, Gene Farris, Chus & Ceballos & Derrick Carter.
His early exposure and interest in house music began with the dance of disco and the slap of the funk, the first 18yrs of his life through his father, an R&B/soul & funk singer. It led him to discover the rise of the underground house music scene in New York City that ultimately changed his life. During the late 80’s and well into the 90's he immersed himself in the underground club culture, the inspiring music, empowering energy and big bangin sound systems coming out of New York City via The Paradise Garage, The Sound Factory & Sound Factory Bar, The Tunnel, Limelight, Save The Robots and Mars.
With an ear on the deep funky techno sounds of Chicago & Detroit he began zeroing in on the ecclectic house music movement & renegade "find the map point" rave scene in Los Angeles, California.
Fast forward to 2109 and this cat continues to be as smooth as his name rolls off your tongue. An OG househead, who continues to rock the baybareas thriving house music scene and beyond, who is now poised to take his music and talent to the next level.
No matter how old or new Michael May's track selection is the frequency puts its hands on you and his harmonious selections possess bonafide beats, deep bass with captivating lyrics and hooks. Throwing down the sound that vibrates the soles of your feet and thumps you in the chest and compels you to the dance floor all night long
