LEE ANNE KING

As a young girl, Lee-Anne King took a keen interest in music from dancing around the living room with her parents and learning to appreciate true artistry. She later realized her talent for singing and thereafter took part in school musicals, as well as being a part of her school choirs in primary school and high school level. After high school, Lee-Anne was offered an opportunity by a friend to record her first song in studio, which then sparked a whole new love affair with music. From then on in her first year of tertiary, she secured an opportunity to feature on a production by renowned Canadian producer Nick Holder. This was a dream come true as she has had a great admiration for him. The song was then released on Soul Candi Sessions 5 compilation, and thereafter also released on the album of the late DJ Tumza’s compilation of Afro lounge 2, called Desires of the heart. She then did follow up a follow techno track with the Duo Track Heads of which Nick Holder is a part of.

She was then noticed by Da Capo who was also in partnership with Nick Holder at the time and went on to record two songs with him. One of these songs being Love Someone which is still popular till today, and the second being Real People. Many other features came about from these strong alliances such as working with other producers and featuring on albums such as House Afrika Sessions 2, Soul Candi Best 100, Candi Roots 2 and Deep House Grooves 08 to name a few. Getting to work with producers like aFrika Soul, Blaqlup and Addicted Souls have been an absolute pleasure. Lee-Anne then released her first single called Qina, The Journey, which is a song of upliftment for one to never give up no matter what. Her second single Gone was released soon after as a dance tracks enjoyed by many. Her newest venture is her first EP called The Psalmist which meshes the genre of gospel and house.

This was a revelation that was brought to her and felt it was her duty to bring this sort of musical combination to the world. Lee-Anne King states: “The world is in need of hope and strength right now, and I believe through my music I can make a difference, even a small one that may touch at least one life. I would like to spread a message of hope and love to the love through God’s word. I am certain this message can be delivered in a way that individuals are able to resonate with, as well as enjoy the amazing the production of the talented DJ and producer Blaqlup.” The Psalmist delivers smooth sounds of deep house with deep hitting vocals and lyrics delivered by songstress Lee-Anne King. She stands by wanting to deliver gospel in an unconventional way as she believes this is her God-given love for House music. “As a society it is time we begin to break boundaries, especially when it comes to supporting one another and getting through the hard times that are upon us”, says Lee-Anne. The Psalmist is definitely a breath of fresh air and a whole lot of talent that the world needs to explore and enjoy.
