For the past several years Curtis Smith has been one of Toronto's most treasured DJs. Beginning in small after hour's venues throughout the city, Curtis was always known for bringing something new and special to the spectrum to dance music. As a veteran DJ ensuring that every last person had a great time is in part his mission, while also leaving them with a desire to return each week for a new and exciting experience. To this day he continues to spend hours online and in records shops around the globe in search great music. In 1994 Smith took that mind set to the CKLN airwaves on his Monday evening program Out of D' Ordinary. The show primarily focused around Jazz and its many offshoots, including Broken Beat, House, Disco, Funk, Afro Latin, Afro Caribbean and Rare Soul.
"For me the roots to every thing I've been about musically have always been in relation to Jazz in all its different forms, offshoots and influences. The thing that I love most about Jazz it that it's a music that lives in the moment. Like fire... it's ever changing, unpredictable. And, if left unattended will purify everything in its path. Nothing remains the same once it has been touched by Jazz. Just as fire is what it is. JAZZ DOES WHAT IT DOES! So it's from that spirit that I DJ, create, celebrate and give my music from. Let it Breathe!!!"
