COY WEST

"Although his first turn behind the decks didn't occur until many years later, Coy West spent the greater part of his teenage years making mixtapes at home with songs he collected on vinyl, cassettes, and even 8-tracks. Raised in Dallas, TX, he moved to Austin in the summer of 1993, started deejaying, and founded the 626 Soul crew, which was dedicated to a long-lasting series of less-than-legal "renegades", park parties, warehouse parties, club residencies, and co-promoted raves.

As his DJ career blossomed, Coy found himself traveling and performing with some of dance music's leading names. Known as a tastemaker, he spent the greater part of 10 years as a working DJ showcasing his skills throughout the US.

In 2001, Coy West joined forces in the studio with Steve Balance to produce music under the name Southern Roots, which had a series of EPs on Bunchlox Music, Jackin' The Box, and Headset Recordings. In 2007, Coy dropped the headphones, put away his gear, and wandered off into the wilderness to "set things straight". In 2012 he found himself behind the mixer again and with a renewed dedication to production."
