KØBA is just the latest iteration in the colorful career of Canada’s Jason Osborne. Bass has always been his weapon, he’s flexed his sub slaughtering skills as J-Rocc of the Sould Out DJs, Kurt Hustle and now he has taken on the name of his own imprint. The one thing that hasn’t changed for KØBA is his love of the bottom end and he’s exhibited that love so well on his debut EP for Hot Cakes.
He’s found himself in more up-tempo territory on this release. “Asphalt” starts things off proper with a battle cry of an intro that leads into a hypnotic vocal. The walloping bass finds a balance with the blissful synths that swing sweetly above. The twerk leaning “DayGlo” is driven forward by spicy edits and a fabulously designed topline. It also comes packed with a full on 808 punch and just a sprinkle of filthy bass. Wassup! rounds out the package with a darker more driving take on things. Crispy drum beats bounce while deftly placed vocal samples top rock the groove making for the most high energy cut on the EP. KØBA is clearly in his element with this package and we couldn’t be happier to have as part of the Hot Cakes fam.
