Lewis Daniels’ first solo release perfectly captures the spirit of Friday Fox Recordings, and it’s clearer than ever on the ‘Troubled Sole EP’ that this label is not about to confirm to anyone’s expectations. The title track skips merrily over an almost whimsical jazz-stabbed groove before delving into something much more ominous in form of a very memorable bassline. On remix duty, Martin Bundsen proves once again that he can turn almost anything into a seminal tech-laden affair and his 7 minute ‘Tech Sole Remix’ venture weighs in heavily.
With the second solo track, ‘Ambition’, Lewis offers up a simple but effective groove that builds to a rather emotive drop crowned by a haunting spoken word sample. Christian B is next up, presenting his piano driven remix of ‘Ambition’ which delivers a solid and almost euphoric experience, only brought back down to earth by a notably dirty bassline providing a much darker experience than the original.
