Rome-based Gianni Rina aka Kocleo touches down on Audiomatique to continue a streak of red-hot releases. It's an EP that showcases a technically accomplished mix of electronic sounds and atmospheres that's ample testimony to his professional career as a sound engineer and the magpie spirit of his eclectic DJ sets.
The title track marries a depth-charge deep kick with a nebula of choric synths. Gradually, fine percussive details emerge before sub bass, dancing woodwinds, a feathered beat and a soaring vocal channel the early 90s vibe of Black Dog and FSOL with distinctly 21st century production values.
'Mold' modulates organically between dense beat-driven passages and clearings of melodic synths, underpinned by a skilfully deployed and decidedly funky analogue bass.
Last up, 'True To Say' brings a dark techno vibe composed of cello sounds, percussive clatters and fragmented, echoing voices: a haunting prelude to surging sub bass and cycling metallic synths that come together to conjure a hypnotic, cruising groove.
