From the heart of the Spanish mainland, Gonzalo Luque has proved himself to be a producer of the highest order through his Soulwerk production pseudonym. Operating out of the Spanish capital, the Soulwerk name has continued to push the boundaries of underground house music, further envisioned through the brand new "Spiritcatcher" EP for Proton Music.

No stranger to the music industry, Luque had already established himself as a successful artist releasing under such labels as Cr2 and Monique Musique before the success of his Soulwerk production alter ego. An accomplished DJ in his own right, Luque has also played in some the most high-profile clubs in Madrid and beyond including, Space of Sound, La Riviera, Soundays and Space Menorca.

Turning to music production to "express his most intimate concept of electronic music", Canadian label Whose Haus first recognised the incipient Soulwerk talent via 2011's "Distant Sun" EP. Within six months, Cid Inc. had discovered the Soulwerk sound, using his Replug imprint as a vehicle to launch the "Fraktals" EP supported by the 'great and good' of the dance music industry. 2014 has continued to be a momentous year for Soulwerk with a series of releases and remixes on labels such as Balkan Connection, FutureForm and Luis Junior's Mooseekaa.

A Proton Music career that began with a high profile remix of Dousk's "Look Good Tonight" towards the end of 2013, quickly followed with the debut "Searching For You Through The Stars" in March 2014. Going on to see standout remixes from Kastis Torrau and Donatello and Rich Curtis, the Soulwerk sound has been supported by such luminaries as Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo, Barry Jamieson and Kassey Voorn.

Now returning to Proton Music with another original offering, the twin-track "Spiritcatcher" EP exemplifies the Soulwerk production pedigree. The title track itself is a swirling, magisterial work that builds effortlessly over its eleven-and-a-half minute expedition. Redolent in sumptuous, pulsating pads and smooth, rounded bass line, "Spiritcatcher" captures the very essence of cutting edge progressive house, resonant with the underlying characteristics of both Pink Floyd and Cid Inc. A complex, percussive groove adds further depth to a work of impressive quality.

Partner track, "Chimera" continues the elegant progressive themes of its predecessor. Bold beats and dominant kick are accompanied by smooth hi-hat urgency while delayed plucks and clever melodic riffs play across a chorus of pads that rise and fall, pulsing in wave like formation. Teasingly revealing its multi-faceted persona over its course, "Chimera" is equally at home on both dance floor and headphone moments.

A growing force in a constantly evolving scene, Soulwerk has captured the very soul of modern underground dance music through his "Spiritcatcher" EP.
