'Be On The Lookout' was the hypnotizing debut of Chicago-and-London-to-Heidelberg duo Faded Ranger, and Nick Maurer and Neville Attree are on the cusp of completing their first album 'Mechanical Tonight', due in the autumn on hfn. This second preview glimpse, 'Get Together (Right Now)', is another colour in the rich musical tapestry that began being woven earlier this year. Blending elements of vintage house, new school disco, and modern dancefloor storytelling, the duo are poised for maximum impact via the ever dependable club-orientated imprint of hfn, hafendisko.
The title track combines a slinky retro beat with an attitude of detachment, for a sound that is alternately familiar and fresh. Recalling the halcyon days of house music, and combining that with 80s pop vocal styling, the duo create a unique point of view that can be appreciated as much for its peak dancefloor fitness as it can for its slow, deliberate groove.
Enlisting support from some of the scene's most revered veteran artists, the quality remixes for 'Get Together (Right Now)' only enhance the duo's gathering momentum, adding a club-oriented slant to their work.
Silky Raven count The Havana Boys, Seidensticker/Salour and Wareika amongst their many and varied credentials, and they apply that eclecticism with skilled hands here, creating a minimalist percussive version that is all itchy rhythms and layers of micro acid melodies.
Charles Webster's handle on deepness is as assured as ever, guiding the way down to a glitchy deep tech rework; sweeping sounds and dub reverb gently usher in a gradual build.
Luke Solomon's pair of remixes recall classic punchy, boompty house, before taking a left turn into unknown territory where the cosmic meets classic warehouse.
