The Loft of Grooves

Gary the Apprentice

Tribal Waves
TWD003 | 2013-09-02
Scottish producer Gary the Apprentice makes his debut for Tribal Waves with
`The Loft of Grooves EP'.
The title track is powerful techno cut with brooding atmosphere. Cut-up vintage synth stabs and time stretched effects tease while ticking percussion and vocal snippets add hypnotic texture. A powerhouse kick drum and warped bass line add aggressive intensity.
The Apprentice builds the groove, cutting up sections of the track and increasing the pressure before releasing wave after wave of high-end assault, ending on a drum laden smash.
Stephen and Vincent De Wit's stunning remix is full of spacey off world mechanics, driving percussion and beefed up bass groove - a heavily reverberated rattle through space. Repeated and echoed, each sound is layered against a clanging metallic synth.
`Continuous Grooves' is a throbbing variation of the title track. Hypnotic subs and looped percussion become the backdrop for a feisty battle between a ringing synth and gated, wide-open stabs - these two combine to create one harmonious groove.
Label boss Zuni injects `Continuous Grooves' with a deeper and darker edge. His `Groovy Remix' adds layers of depth with atmospheric sweeping pads and tight tribal percussive loops that build and build as the track evolves into some techno 'Fuerza Bruta'.
