OUTNL006R | 2013-02-04
2012 has been somewhat of a breakthrough year for Bristol based duo Behling & Simpson. After a string of well crafted remixes and wonderful EP's on labels such as Apple Pips and 2020 Vision, the duo have decided to top the year off with an excellent EP on the Rotterdam based Outernational Recordings label.

'The Vaults', as the EP is called, is a well crafted body of work that contains 3 absolute banging tracks that remind us why house music is as interesting as it today. A fine example of originality and creativity. The titletrack is probably the perfect example for this; a belter of a track just clocking under 10 minutes. The track takes you on a journey with its wonderful combination of mesmerizing synths and deeply soothing pads. The track also contains one of the best build ups we've heard in a while. One that also delivers, as the conclusive part of the track ends with something that can only be described as an euphoric moment. Pure vibes on this one. 'Slates', the EP's runner up, is a continuation of the melodic goodness that can be heard in the titletrack. However, 'Slates' takes a somewhat different approach with Behling & Simpson's excellent use of vocal samples and tribal drums. It's a mid-tempo burner that absolutely has that dancefloor filling vibe to it. Last but not least we have the acid crazyness that is 'Vitamin A'. A track that will definitely see some peak time action in a lot of sets as it contains an exciting mix of pumping drums, rolling synth action and a crazy bassline.

To top everything off, the Outernational label has also landed some exclusive remix work by 2 producers that have both had quite a breakthrough year this year. On the one hand we have man of the moment Ejeca who gets remix duties on 'The Vaults'. His remix seems to maintain that adventurous vibe the original has while also providing that trademark Ejeca sound. Pure vibes. 'Slates' on the other hand gets some nice rework action by newcomer Last Mood. The Rotterdam based producer stays true to the original by maintaining it's excellent vocal samples and drum rhythm but also adds an original twirl by adding some warehouse deepness to it. To sum everything up we'd have to quote Behling & Simpson on this one; "It's slow but it jacks". This project is an absolute must-have if you are into house music.
