PETS RECORDINGS

After something of a stylistic re-alignment in 2010, Polish production duo Catz & Dogz decided to start an imprint to back up their new sonic wares. The name was Pets Recordings, the output was immediately refreshing, charming and arresting and the mission from the start was “to promote music that we love, regardless of whether it will sell or not: we don't want to be just another dance label” state the duo with their usual candour. And it certainty is not just another dance label, with a very tight identity encapsulating sharp art work, both vinyl and digital releases, a Petcast podcast series, label parties at connoisseur places like Watergate, Berlin and a number of great looking videos. But at the heart of all this, of course, is the music… Pets Recordings have so far develop close relationships (something important to the duo behind the label) with the likes of Pol_On, Martin Dawson, Maceo Plex, Chmara Winter and more, releasing a number of EPs and a three part compilation showcasing a bass heavy brand of sometimes colourful; sometimes deep house music that works wonders on the dancefloor. “To work with friends is so important to us” say the pair. “Most of the releases on the label are made by people we’ve met already. What’s more, once we’ve released something from someone once, we like to work with them again for another EP, remix or party appearance.” The coming months will see more label showcases at Watergate, plenty more Petcasts from close friends - allowing them to play the sort of music they might not normally in the club environment “ as well as 10 more label parties in clubs around Poland, Europe and the US in order to champion the next generation of production talent. So too will there be an EP from Pol_On, one from an Unknown Artist with Coat of Arms remix, materiel from Martin Dawson and Glimpse and also a very special release from a Dane called Uffe backed with a remix from the Catz & Dogz boys themselves. Motivated by the great public, press and private DJ reactions received for the label’s output so far, Pets Recordings is only just beginning. With the labels first full length albums also due to land sometime in 2012, you’d better watch out…
