FK's Wave label continues its current fascination with the darker side of electronic music and long may it if it unearths material like this. The title track is cold and bleak, distorted kicks struggling to find their way through bleeps and electronic mayhem. 'Ellegua' is a slow, surreal percussive workout. Finally, 'Trapped' is an out-of-control spiral into the guts of house music. Strange and compelling. 5/7 (Essential) -- Darren Wall, Seven Update, 7 August 2002 Writers & Producers: Antonio Caballero. Following on from the tech house of Floppy Sounds by Ultrasong, the Harlem Sunshine, Fluid X and Marino Berardi comes another from Caballero whose influences range from Carl Craig to Tito Puente. It opens with the title track "Snowtr_ck" which is packed full of deep electronic wizardry from classic kit. A minimalist "radar screen" blip riff marries with a dirty bassline and builds into a hectic off-the-wall techno inspired track with vocal snatches. Apparently inspired by winter and the mysterious, cold, ominous feeling that it conveys, "Snowtr_ck" works well. Next up is "Ellegua" which is derived from the Santeria faith and means Orishs messenger, trickster and opener of the bath: very deep! It boasts tribal rhythm and funky arrangement with breathy vocals creating a great groove. Finally the b-side's "Trapped" is a percussive foray with anthemic acid licks - inspired by his father's birthplace, Cuba. 3/5 -- Mark Moore, Blues & Soul, Issue 874
