WaveTec is the newest branch of Francois K's illustrious Wave Music, but the concept is as old as the label itself. Back in 1994, when Francois was just beginning to get his fledgling label off the ground, he had a vision to create a catalogue of music that defied categories and genre boundaries - something that was (in his own words) purely and simply about the MUSIC.
Wave's near-decade life span has seen the introduction of artists such as annex, Syphon and D'Malicious to the dance world, and created a new outlet for already established artists like Dylan Drazen, Matthias Heilbronn and Boyd Jarvis. Wave has forged deep and lasting relationships with each of these artists, working with them to continue expanding the catalogue.
In a way, the release of WaveTec One, "Miles From Mars", marks the culmination of what began a decade ago with the release of Floppy Sounds' "Downtime", and it still holds true to Francois' original intention for Wave Music. This compilation captures the harder, more techy sounds of Wave's catalog and our techno imprint 'clicktracks', music that uses electronics to evoke a unique set of moods and movement.
Both Rob Sperte and Mike Callaghan, the masterminds behind the mix, are old friends of Wave. For years Mike has been our trusty in-house engineer, mixing various Wave releases prior to this one. Rob, a long-time DJ, former studio manager for Axis, and now head of A&R at Wave, is fast emerging as an important creative force helping to shape Wave's future. There is no one else that we would rather have crafting this mix.
